GEOGRAPHY TEACHER

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking to hire a dynamic, talented, and energetic and result oriented Geography teacher into the Secondary section of the school.

JOB FUNCTIONS
The job functions include but are limited to the following:
Responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability to understand and utilize their knowledge of geography.
To oversee the provision of relevant and up to date advice and support for pupils as it relates to the subject.
To co-ordinate the selection and development of appropriate syllabus and courses in line with related resources.
To maintain full and accurate records of students’ achievements as it relates to the subject.
Deliver engaging, coherent lectures and motivating lessons to students across key stages.
Utilize learning technology in the planning and delivery of lessons.
To keep up to date with curriculum change and reforms.
Develop lesson plans in line with the curriculum objectives.
To plan for, provide and maintain the physical resources necessary for learning and the delivery of chosen syllabuses and courses (including for example; books, past papers, file shares, furniture, equipment etc). Where necessary, liaise with other department to achieve this feat.
To undertake, where appropriate, other roles, which may arise either in the department or in the wider school environment.
Any other duties relating to the job as required from time to time by the Head of School /Principal.

REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of IGCSE curriculum
B.Ed in Geography, Geophysics, Geology or any other related discipline. Minimum of Second Class Lower
Masters or Post Graduate qualification in a related subject is an added advantage
3- 5 years professional teaching experience
Past involvement in extracurricular activities
High Level of IT literacy

Capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the students
Ability to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with all students
Excellent and effective classroom management skills
Excellent communication skills to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors

Have a sharp and progressive vision of the subject and of teaching and learning in a successful and dynamic school

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have a minimum of second class upper degree (in Education) or B.SC/B.A with a P.G.D.E qualification in the following fields; DRAMA, MUSIC, LAB TECHNICIAN, ACCOUNTING, ECONOMICS, ART, SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS, FRENCH, ENGLISH, MATHS, AND SCIENCE.

Relevant Work Experience:
Preferably not more than 1 year post NYSC experience

CAREER COUNSELLOR

JOB DESCRIPTION
Help students set realistic academic and career goals and develop a plan to achieve them. Evaluate students’ abilities and interests through aptitude assessments, interviews, and individual planning. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to help students succeed. The Career Counsellor collaborates directly with students, parents, and College/Universities Admissions Representatives.

Job duties includes but not limited to:
The Career Counsellor guides and monitors student progress to and through graduation, assists students and families in consideration of the extensive range of school/college options and prepare/positions students for the processes and procedures that will make them successful applicants.
The College/Career Counsellor tracks students through their subjects combinations, assisting them as appropriate, and uses the information generated to adjust programs and services for current students.
They collect information about schools and programs for clients interested in pursuing post-secondary education
Career counselors help people develop career plans, and educate student about the labor market.
Use assessments, to help students evaluate their interests, skills, and abilities
Guide Students through making decisions about their careers, such as choosing the type of degree to pursue
Assist students in locating and applying for schools / internship programs as appropriate , by helping and teaching them strategies to find openings and how to write a résumé, cover letter, motivation letter and other writings for school/internship application.
Help student select and apply for additional educational programs to obtain the necessary skill set / credentials preparing them for higher institution and the labour market
Any other duty related to the role as required by the school

PERSON SPECIFICATION
B.Ed in Counselling or any related field
Master’s Degree preferred but not required
Minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in similar role
Excellent Communication skills and work ethics
Ability to be confidential and mentor as appropriate
Excellent IT skills.
