LIVELIHOODS AND FOOD SECURITY TECHNICAL ASSISTANT – IRRIGATION 
(Maiduguri; Biu; Damasak; Dikwa & Monguno) Nigerian National Only

DETAILS:
NRC is looking for a Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant for our field offices in Maiduguri; Biu, Damasak; Dikwa and Monguno – Borno State in Northern Nigeria.

The purpose of the Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant is the day to day implementation of Livelihoods and Food Security irrigation component of the EU project in Maiduguri; Biu; Damasak; Dikwa and Monguno in Borno State

NRC initiated country operations in Nigeria in June 2015, in order to respond to the critical and increasing needs in the country. NRC currently has a full team based in Maiduguri and a coordination office in Abuja.

NRC is currently providing services across various sectors namely; Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH); Food Security; and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) in order to address identified humanitarian needs.

The Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant reports to the Livelihoods and Food Security Officer.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Together with Livelihoods & Food security Officers, the Assistants will be responsible for the implementation of irrigation activities on the field – mobilization of communities, irrigation development assessments and monitoring of works.
  • Carry out the selection of project beneficiaries
  • Data collection for project monitoring and evaluation.
  • Coordinate the food security activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
  • Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
  • Facilitate the distribution of materials and equipment according to procedures
  • Prepare weekly progress reports and other documents as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.Sc. Civil Engineering / Agricultural Engineering / Irrigation Engineering
  • One-year experience in the NGO sector
  • Experience as an Agricultural Extension Agent
  • Knowledge of the context in Northeast Nigeria
  • Experience from working in Food Security humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Some knowledge of English
  • Education field

Education title: Bachelors’ degree in Civil Engineering / Agricultural Engineering / Irrigation Engineering

EMERGENCY RESPONSE COORDINATOR

Maiduguri & Monguno (Nigeria National Only)

NRC is looking for a Emergence Responses Coordinator for our field office in Maiduguri and Monguno, Borno State in Northern Nigeria. The purpose of the Emergence Response Assistant is to assist in the Implementation and impact of Emergence Response activities in Maiduguri and Monguno, Borno State

The Emergence Response Coordinator reports to Emergence Response Programme Development Manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  • Contribute to RRM strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps
  • Manage and implement delegated portfolio of RRM projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from PDM in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  • Ensure and support implementation of needs assessments and support beneficiary identification and selection
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist.
  • Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
  • Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
  • Other duties as directed from time to time

We offer

Commencement: April 2018

Duration: 12 months

Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions (Grade Level 4 Step 1)

Duty stations: Maiduguri; Biu; Damasak; Dikwa and Monguno with 50% frequent travels. Travel outside duty stations is dependent on changing security conditions, especially for certain roads in the area.

Approved health certficate will be requested before contract start.
